It’s been a choppy and the S & P spent most of the afternoon flipping between gains and losses. But as of now, the market is higher and yields are ticking slower on soft inflation data. Nasdaq outperforming Russell 2000 (small caps) again. Sectors leading included Energy, rising on increased tensions in the middle east. Communication Services, Real Estate and Utilities are also bouncing back as yields dip. Sectors that are lagging include Consumer Discretionary with the airlines getting crushed on the spike in oil and Delta’s lower profit outlook. Healthcare is also down as heavyweight United Health is dragging down the managed care stocks after it said its medical costs were higher than expected Looking at individual stock movers, Meta shares ticked higher Friday. Jim explained there’s this narrative that its too soon to judge Meta’s new generation smart glasses which are currently available only for pre-order. But Jim has demoed the glasses and thinks that they’ll be “all the rage.” He also said that one of the reasons why META stock has been going up is because people are starting to believe there are exciting new products coming from the tech giant. Elsewhere, Disney , Coterra and Costco were also moving higher. On the downside, however, Wells Fargo fell after the bank reported a weak net interest income guide during its fourth quarter earnings print Friday morning.
