Danish authorities have ended their investigation into the Nord Stream pipeline explosions after failing to find enough evidence to pursue a criminal case, the country’s police said Monday.
The Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines carry natural gas from Russia to Germany and were hit by a series of underwater explosions in September 2022, prompting investigations from Germany, Sweden and Denmark–with help from the U.S. and other Western allies.
Copenhagen Police and the Danish Security and Intelligence Services have been conducting a joint investigation into the blasts and have concluded that there was deliberate sabotage of the gas pipelines.
“However, the assessment is that there is not the sufficient grounds to pursue a criminal case in Denmark. Therefore, the Copenhagen Police has decided to conclude the criminal investigation of the explosions,” it said in a statement.
Sweden earlier this month also dropped its probe into the explosions after saying it lacked jurisdiction in the case as it found no evidence that Swedes were involved.
